Survey of Youth and Adolescent Reproductive Health and Sexual Behavior
in Mozambique (INJAD)

What is INJAD? 

INJAD is the final report of a survey, compiled through various participating organizations, based on information collected from young people 15 to 24 years old in Mozambique about socio-economic characteristics, reproductive health, sexuality, family planning and violence.  At this time, the full report is only available in Portuguese.  Please click here for the English summary.

Bay Area International Group Involvement

Bay Area International Group Project Coordinator Ndola Prata collaborated with Mozambique’s National Institute of Statistics and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention to collect the data which made this report possible.

Objectives of INJAD

Ø       Profile information on reproductive health and sexuality of youth and adolescents.

Ø       Compile the information necessary for the design and implementation of educational programs that take into consideration youth and adolescent reproductive health and sexuality.

Ø       Make available a base for the development of intervention strategies targeted toward the provision of reproductive health services and disease prevention.

INJAD Questionnaire

Questionnaires were divided into three distinct groups: 1) Households, 2) Girls and 3) Boys.  Questionnaires given to girls and boys contained questions with the following themes:

Ø       Characteristics of respondents

Ø       Level of sex education

Ø       Contraception and sexual experience

Ø       Reproduction

Ø       Prenatal care and maternal mortality (only for girls)

Ø       Marital status

Ø       STDs/AIDS

Ø       Domestic violence
